About Philip Scott

Philip began his art and, in particular, sculpture with the support and encouragement of his late mother, Mary Scott SEA, SWA. He aced his Sculpture A-level at college in 3 months with a portfolio of animals from a contemplative frog to a noble swan by way of a fluid shark and a streamlined otter. As can be seen, Philip enjoys creating representational rather than abstract art and doesn’t waste time capturing the essence of his subjects!!

He started his professional career painting grass green as a set decorator on the film “Tarka the Otter” in 1977. Taking a few days off mid-filming to drive Formula Ford at the local circuit, he had a catastrophic accident and broke his neck, becoming completely paralysed from the shoulders down from that time. Understandably it was a few years until he tackled the possibility of producing great quality art again.

He re-started his artistic career as a magazine illustrator in 1979 and children’s book illustrator in 1982. During the 1990’s he was tempted by Vivien Mallock, FRBS, one of Britain’s leading portrait sculptors, to return to sculpture in some classes in mud pies that she was offering near Andover. He was encouraged to evolve techniques and tools to enable him to re-kindle his passion for sculpture. He was off!!

Apart from working at his home, he regularly works at Project Workshops, near Thruxton, Hampshire taking advantage of the generously offered studio space from his great friend and mentor, Vivi, in her studio next to the Talos Art Foundry which produces his work.

Today, his work is primarily cast in bronze by the Talos Art Foundry and his limited editions and portrait commissions capture the personality of his subjects in an insightful and friendly way, be they people or beloved animals.
